What is macramé?
Macramé is the art of knotting to create decorative pieces. The medium largely used in macramé are cotton ropes, however, you can use any fiber medium for it. It's recommended that the fiber medium has some body to it.
In the early day, this art form was used to make items such as towels, blankets, shawls etc. Today, it has expanded to create art pieces such as wall decor and lifestyle items such as plant hangers, bags, bracelets (if you know of friendship band, it is pretty similar!) etc.
There are many knots to learn in macramé but there are 5 commonly used basic knots. Learning these knots will allow you to create wall hangings, plant hangers, and simple bags.
Amongst these 5 commonly used basic knots is the Lark's Head Knot, Square Knot and Clove Hitch Knot.
Below are short demo videos of these 3 basic knots and a demo video on a fast forward video on a mini wall hanging.
